LUTZ, Fla. -- Sandwiches, salads, and sweets are packed into lunch bags with a lot of love in the kitchen at "Father and Son Love Worship Centre” in Lutz.
- Church provides free sack lunches through summer
- Lunch served Mondays and Wednesday
- Program ends Aug. 29
- INFO on church
The church is providing the free sack lunches to families for the summer -- but they hope it provides more than just food.
"We're gonna feed them for the entire week, not just that day,” said Pastor Clarence J. Johns, Sr., the Centre’s Senior Pastor. “If that can help defray the cost, you know what that might be able to do, that might help with a trip to Orlando, it may help to put them in a camp, maybe a baseball or a basketball or whatever."
"Times are hard so we've met some wonderful people through this organization and they've helped us tremendously,” said Linda Wright who received one of the lunches. “We're very thankful every day."
Wright isn’t a member of the church but Pastor Johns says everyone is welcome.
"We want to show people the love of Christ just in giving,” said Pastor Johns. “Let's serve the community and ask nothing from them."
Some kids might be heading back to school but the program isn’t over yet.
Lunch is served every Monday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and every Wednesday from noon to 3 p.m. through Aug. 29.
Each bag contains a turkey or peanut butter and jelly sandwich, salad or fruit, a sweet treat, and a bottle of water.
"Everybody needs to feel what we feel when we walk in, like I say words can't express it," said Wright.
Pastor Johns hopes people leave with food and hope.
"Changing this world, one person at a time," said Pastor Johns.
