TAMPA, Fla. -- A lightning strike caused a fire at a home in Tampa on Friday night.

Tampa Fire Rescue responded to the home at 5117 W San Jose Street around 7:30 p.m. where they found heavy smoke and flames shooting through the roof of the single-story home.
Two workers in the area reported seeing and hearing the lightning strike.
Firefighters said the fire was so intense that they weren't able to enter the house and had to put the fire out using a ladder truck.
Crews said the fire burned from the top of the home, downward, indicating the fire was caused by lightning.
Officials say no one was home at the time, however, a dog inside the home died from the fire.
