LAKELAND, Fla. — One person was killed in a fire in North Lakeland on Friday night.
The fire started around 7 p.m. at a home on Rockridge Road.
Polk County Fire Rescue said when crews arrived on the scene, they saw large flames and heavy smoke coming from the house, which was several hundred yards off of the main road.
The home is considered a complete loss and the cause is now under investigation.
Officials said Loretta and James Pickard own the home and the sheriff's office is confident the victim is 76-year-old Loretta, but won't get final confirmation until the autopsy is done next week.
