ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Winds will increase for Friday and a band of heavy rain is on the way.

  • Rain moves in
  • Severe storms possible
  • Drying out Saturday PM

Skies will be mostly cloudy with some scattered light showers possible between now and sunrise.

Temperatures are much milder, with lows not dropping past the 60s.

We’ll start Friday with just cloudy skies and some scattered showers for the morning. Temperatures will warm into the mid and upper 70s due to a strong southerly wind flow.

The winds will continue to increase through the day and peak in the afternoon as a line of showers and storms moves in from the Gulf of Mexico.

That line will be heavy and we’ll be watching it closely for the potential for severe winds or an isolated tornado.

The batch of storms will then slowly evolve into moderate lingering rain and move out of the area slowly Friday evening.

Friday night will be mostly cloudy, with lows in the 60s and still some lingering scattered showers.

Saturday will feature a wind from the west-northwest, so we’ll still have clouds coming in from the gulf. There will also still be some lingering light showers or sprinkles. Highs will be in the 70s Saturday.

Then the drier, slightly cooler air will move in Saturday night, with lows in the 50s Sunday morning and highs in the upper 60s that afternoon.
