BROOKSVILLE, Fla. — The Hernando County Sheriff's Office Animal Enforcement Officers seized over a dozen dogs from a Brooksville kennel on Friday.

  • 19 Labs seized from Blackrock Kennels
  • Dogs living in deplorable conditions, malnourished

AEO responded to the Blackrock Kennels, owned by Joe Cox, on Sunday, December 16, to conduct a mandatory kennel inspection.

During the inspection, officers discovered that the dogs, which were all Labrador Retrievers, were not being cared for properly and were living in deplorable conditions.

Two dogs appeared to be in distress and were immediately removed from the property and taken to Hernando County Animal Services to be cared for, officials said.

The remaining 19 Labs were seized from the property on December 21 after the sheriff's office sought a court order to remove the remaining dogs from the kennel.

All of the dogs are being cared for at Hernando County Animal Services, officials said.

The investigation remains ongoing.
