TAMPA, Fla. — Tampa police conducted a death investigation Monday afternoon after a hazardous materials situation on Davis Islands.
- Investigators: Man who died left car running in garage
- Carbon monoxide fumes drifted into home
- Two dogs also found dead in unit
Emergency personnel responded to the Villa Del Mare complex on Bosphorous Avenue and East Davis Boulevard just after 10 a.m.
Tampa Fire Rescue officials said they found a man unconscious and a woman clinging to life in the home.
The man died at the scene, while the woman was transported to Tampa General Hospital. She's listed in critical condition.
A vehicle in the garage of the building provided investigators with insight into what may have happened. They believe the vehicle may have been left running, allowing toxic fumes into the unit.
Two dogs were also found dead in the home, according to investigators.
First responders who worked the scene were transported to the hospital for observation.
About two hours later, police confirmed the situation shifted to a death investigation.
The identity of the deceased has not yet been released. The investigation is ongoing, but no foul play is suspected.
