DELAND, Fla. — A DeLand High School student was arrested Wednesday after allegedly flashing a firearm-shaped knife at school, police say.

Nineteen-year-old Craig Denton is charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon on school property, and disrupting a school function.

According to the DeLand Police Department, students told a school resource officer they saw Denton flash what they initially thought was a gun when they confronted him about a fight.

After a police officer approached the student, he fled, throwing what was later discovered to be a knife shaped like a gun.

Denton is being held at Volusia County Branch Jail on $8,000 bond.

Students were not in any immediate danger during the incident, police say.
