PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — A 34-year-old man was charged with DUI after crashing into a Pinellas County deputy overnight in St. Petersburg.
According to the report, Deputy Shawn Livernois was on-duty, traveling northbound on 37th Street South in his unmarked 2007 Dodge Magnum when he was hit by a 2013 Nissan Altima at about 12 a.m.
Officials said Derrick Taylor was traveling westbound on 11th Avenue and failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of 37th Street South and 11th Avenue, crashing into Deputy Livernois.
Both Deputy Livernois and Taylor were transported to a local hospital for minor non-life threatening injuries.
Investigators said Taylor showed signs of impairment at the scene and after being released from the hospital. Taylor was arrested and charged with DUI with property damage/personal injury. He was also cited for not wearing a seatbelt and failing to stop at a stop sign.
The investigation remains ongoing.
