OCALA, Fla. — A 6-week-old baby was killed and five people, including three children, were critically injured when a truck drifted into oncoming traffic and struck a van Friday, troopers said.

Two other vehicles were involved in the crash, which also left those drivers with minor injuries.

The crash happened at about 4 p.m. Friday on State Road 40 east of Silver Springs in Marion County.

Troopers said the truck, driven by Lacosta Romone Cylde, 36, of Daytona Beach, was headed east when it drifted south into the eastbound lane, where it struck a 1996 Chevrolet Express van driven by 28-year-old Ashley K. Borja.

The van then struck a 2007 Ford F-150, and debris from the previous crashes struck the driver of a 1996 Suzuki motorcycle, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The van was full of people: Borja, 5-year-old Juan Robles Vallespi, 4-year-old Kley Borja and 6-week-old Zoe Robles Vallespi were taken to UF Shands, where the baby died. The others were all in critical condition. Juan G. Robles Vallespi, 31, of Gainesville was taken to Ocala Regional Medical Center in critical condition. Mia Figueroa, 8, was also critically injured, though troopers didn't specify to which hospital the child was taken.

The driver of the F-150, Phillip A. Morris, 42, of Ocklawaha, and the motorcycle, William P. Weakland, 36, of Ocala, incurred minor injuries.

Charges are pending, FHP said.
