DUNEDIN, Fla. — Knowledge is golden, and those who teach our children are honored for their dedication to the craft.

The Golden Apple Awards for Excellence in Teaching & Leadership recognizes excellent teachers for their contributions to building a stronger, better-educated society.

And one Dunedin teacher is being awarded for their dedication and hard work.

Andrew Welter-Frost is a paratrooper turned Math teacher.  He said after serving five years in the Army, he knew he wanted to continue helping people and leave a lasting impact.  Teaching meets both of those goals.

"Some of the most memorable moments have been when I spark that curiosity with my students and you can see it's very visible," he said.

Frost, who teaches at Discovery Academy of Science, said the biggest part of the award was that it came from parents and staff members that nominated him.
