TAMPA, Fla. -- TAMPA, Fla. – Tampa's LGBTQ community kicked off its fifth annual Pride event on Saturday.

  • Tampa Pride event held this weekend
  • Parade in Ybor City kicked off the festivities
  • Organizers hope the event continues to grow

The weekend festivities began in Ybor City with the annual Tampa Pride Diversity Parade, which made its way down 7th Avenue. There were stage performers and of course the marketplace, where people could buy and sell Pride items.

"To me it means unity," said Elizabeth Saltigerald, a registered nurse. "It means acceptance. It means progress. That we're going in the right direction to care for one another. There's just so many other serious thing to worry about. This should not be one of them."

Tampa Pride has grown steadily over the last five years and organizers hope to keep that trend going for years to come.
