FLORAL CITY, Fla. — A suspect in a multi-county pursuit remains in the hospital Monday.

  • Deputies, FHP pursue stolen truck across 3 counties
  • FHP used a PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle in Sumter County
  • Suspect Travis Lovett, 22, remains in Tampa General Hospital

According to the Citrus County Sheriff's Office, 22-year-old Travis Lovett stole a Ford pickup truck near State Road 44 and US 41 Sunday morning in Floral City before leading authorities on a chase through Citrus and Hernando counties before the vehicle crashed in Sumter County.

The Florida Highway Patrol also assisted in the pursuit. Lovett, of Bushnell, stole the truck from a firefighter.

During the chase, Lovett fires shots at troopers and tried to run over at least two deputies, authorities said. Bullets struck one trooper's windshield.

Authorities used a PIT maneuver to stop the pursuit, causing the truck to roll over multiple times. Lovett was ejected from the vehicle and taken to Bayonet Point Hospital before being transferred to Tampa General Hospital.

He is facing two counts of aggravated assault and one count of aggravated fleeing or eluding law enforcement.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol arrest record, Lovett also was arrested in January of this year after stealing a vehicle and leading deputies on a chase in Pasco and Hernando counties.
