PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — That seventh inning stretch song “Take me out to the Ball Game,” is not just a celebration of the love of baseball — it’s a celebration of a woman’s love of baseball.

  • "Take me out to the ball game" written about a woman
  • Woman name Katie Casey loved the game of baseball

There is a verse we don’t sing at the end and at the beginning of the song.

It’s really about a woman name Katie Casey who loves baseball so much she’d blow all her money on going to see the games.

Here’s part of that first verse right before “Take me out to the ball game.’’

“On a Saturday her young beau

Called to see if she’d like to go

To see a show, But Miss Kate said no,

‘I’ll tell you what you can do:’”

Most fans we talked to at a Tampa Tarpon/Dunedin Blue Jay’s game this week were surprised by this lyrical story.

“It’s amazing, my entire life I’ve been playing baseball as a kid and never knew that,” said fan Dezmen Mendez.

His wife, however, was not.

“Oh absolutely not — women rule,” she said, laughing.
