The robbery occurred at Sam's Hudson Beach Bar, located on the 6000 block of Clark Street.
According to the restaurant’s Facebook post, two thieves forced their way inside with a gun, then pepper-sprayed and beat up the employees. Investigators say the two men made off in a dark colored four-door Chevrolet SUV.
The restaurant announced in the same post that they were closing for the day and planned to pick up the pieces and prepare to open back up on Tuesday.
Customers who didn’t see the Facebook post were in shock to learn about the robbery.
“That’s scary. My friend works here, so I hope she wasn’t involved in that. It’s terrible. Terrible,” said patron Christina Cunningham. “Right on the water. Beautiful area. I wouldn’t suspect anybody to come over here and do something like that.”
She also works in a restaurant like this one and offered some advice to employees when they come back to work Tuesday.
“I would say keep a watchful eye,” Cunningham said. “Keep your pocket books close because that’s what they’re after. Our money. Our hard working money.”
