TAMPA, Fla. — A man on an e-scooter was seriously injured Thursday afternoon after he collided with a tractor trailer, according to Tampa Police.
Investigators say around 4:45 p.m. the scooter rider was driving northbound on S. 20th Street in the far right lane near the curb. Then, for reasons still undetermined, the scooter veered into the path of the tractor trailer, also driving northbound.
The truck's driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. The driver of the e-scooter was transported to the hospital with what officers called "serious" injuries.
Lime E-Scooters, who operate the scooter program in downtown Tampa, issued the following statement regarding the crash late Thursday:
“Our thoughts are with the rider involved in this tragic incident in Tampa and we’re praying for a full recovery. We have reached out to local authorities and stand ready to assist however possible.”
