PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. -- Meals on Wheels in Pinellas County needs volunteers to deliver food to home-bound seniors, the nonprofit organization Neighborly said.
- Meals on Wheels in need of volunteers
- Organization says it has lost 25 percent of its volunteers
- Those interested in delivery food to seniors should call 727-573-9444
The organization, which serves nearly 3,000 seniors, said it's seen a substantial decline in the number of volunteers this summer.
"Neighborly, Meals on Wheels has lost more than 25 percent of their Meals on Wheels volunteer drivers, as snowbirds leave to travel up north during the summer months," a news release said. "Their absence is leaving a gap in meal delivery that could result in isolated, homebound seniors not receiving a meal."
There are eight Meals on Wheels locations in Pinellas County.
Each route takes between 60 to 90 minutes during lunchtime.
