AUSTIN, Texas -- A voluntary and precautionary recall has been issued for two taco seasoning mixes.
- Great Value and H-E-B brand among recall
- Potentially contaminated with salmonella
- Recall is precautionary
Williams Foods LLC said that Great Value Mild Taco Seasoning Mix and HEB Taco Seasoning Mix Reduced Sodium contain cumin spice involved in a different recall because a sample from that lot was tested by a customer and was found to be potentially contaminated with Salmonella.
The company said that the recall is precautionary and there have been no consumer complaints or reported cases in connection with the products. The potentially affected product consists of retail packages weighing between 1 oz. and 1.25 oz.
Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections, endocarditis and arthritis.
