ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — We have seen very heavy tropical downpours in some areas due to the tropical wave passing.

There will be a lull in the storms for a few hours during the morning hours, but they will start again quickly after sunrise Saturday morning. Morning lows will be in the low to mid 70s.
They will tend to start in the gulf and near coastal areas first, then slowly drift inland after that.
The scattered storms and heavy downpours will propagate slowly inland and eastward as the day goes along with variably cloudy to partly sunny skies otherwise. The coverage of storms will be at about 60 percent. Highs will be in the upper 80s.
The storms will end Saturday night with lows in the mid to upper 70s.

Sunday they will start again in coastal areas first and then propagate inland as the days goes along. But with slightly drier air above, the coverage will dip a bit into the 40 percent range. Highs will be at about 90.
Next week looks to be back to a typical August pattern of daily scattered storms with a 50 percent coverage just about every day. Highs will be near 90 each day.
TROPICAL UPDATE
An elongated area of low pressure located over the central tropical Atlantic Ocean several hundred miles southeast of the Lesser Antilles is generating widespread disorganized showers. Some slow development of this system is still possible, and a tropical depression could form well east of the Leeward Islands by early next week while the low moves west-northwestward at 10 to 15 mph.
Upper-level winds are forecast to become less conducive for development as the system approaches the Leeward Islands Tuesday and Wednesday.
