HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — The Hillsborough County School District is expected to finalize a job profile Wednesday for the new Superintendent position as current Superintendent Jeff Eakins leaves the district next June.
- Hillsborough Schools to approve Superintendent job profile
- Current Superintendent Jeff Eakins retiring next June
- Application process to be open through December 11
The job profile approval is the last step before the district opens the application process.
School Board Chair Tamara Shamburger says, “developing that profile will be dependent on what the community wants, in addition to what the board wants, in the next superintendent."
The job profile helps define what the district is looking for in a new superintendent. Will he or she look to tighten or expand the budget, focus on graduation rates, or look to retain more teachers? It's all about the new direction a new superintendent could steer the district in coming years.
Hillsborough County is the 9th largest school district in the country with 194,000 students.
The job profile research was completed by a search firm specializing in high profile job hires. It held public forums, created an online survey and met with at least two dozen core community groups for input.
The school board is expected to approve the job profile at today's meeting and the application process will be open through December 11.
