According to the police department, 35-year-old Antonio Davis turned himself in at the Lakeland Police Department for an outstanding warrant, unrelated to the homicide case, for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and battery.
Winter Haven detectives were able to identify Davis in a disturbance on August 28 at 320 Avenue U, NW where they said Davis displayed a firearm and indicated he would "use it." He was booked into the Polk County jail Monday morning for the warrant charges, along with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Detectives say they are still in the early stages of their investigation, saying the crime scene inside the home is extensive, and that they have a lot of work ahead of them.
"We are chasing leads and talking with folks in the neighborhood. Just following up on those leads. We will continue to do that and as the crime scene finishes up, that’s when we’ll be able to actually get a better details of what we need to be chasing," said Winter Haven Police Chief Charlie Bird.
According to family members of Brown and Owens, the adult son of one of the women killed made the gruesome discovery.
"I don’t know what happened. Her and the girl were pretty good friends. The girls didn’t do nothing. She just got caught up in just a bad guy," said LeRoy Cobb, Brown's grandfather.
Family members say they just want answers.
"When you kill somebody, you take so much from everybody. The families, the mom, and the kids -- everybody’s life will never be the same. It was senseless, and we need justice we need him to go to jail," said Kay Ernest, Owens' sister-in-law.
Investigators say they aren't releasing any more information to the public at this time.
