The city just launched its new storm drain mural program. Residents can take part by painting storm drains.
The idea is to make them stand out and show why they should stay clean.
“It serves a dual purpose,” said Clearwater Neighborhood Coordinator, Juliahna Green. “We’re teaching people things can’t go down this drain, but the other aspect is that it does really beautify the street corner.”
Clearwater will provide free supplies to residents who want to decorate a drain in their neighborhood. Designs have to be pre-approved by the city.
The first storm drain to get the mural treatment is located on Cleveland Street and N. Fort Harrison Avenue in downtown. Several residents have already expressed interest in doing more.
