The woman serving time for the 2016 death of her estranged husband has her appeal denied.

Attorneys for Laura Rideout had argued she didn't get a fair trial because she was tried along with her sons in the death of Craig Rideout.

Laura and her son Colin were found guilty of killing Craig Rideout in his Penfield home in 2016. His body was found in Yates County. Her son Alex Rideout was found guilty of evidence tampering.

The defense argued Laura Rideout should not have been tried with the co-defendants and the fact that she was did not give her an opportunity for a fair trial.

The court ruled that even if the court made a mistake in trying all the defendants together, the error was "harmless."

Laura Rideout is serving a 41-year sentence, while Colin is serving 27 years. Her other son, Alex, was denied parole in June and could be in jail for up to 8 years.
