According to St. Petersburg Police, officers responded to a call just after 3:30 a.m. Monday for a woman in need of assistance at 634 60th Avenue South.
Upon arrival, they found the victim, Gloria Davis, 56, deceased with multiple stab wounds.
Detectives called to the scene later found probable cause to arrest the 13-year-old boy, who we are not naming in accordance with our Crime Guidelines.
"He did not confess, and again, we're still trying to figure out what caused this juvenile to kill his grandmother," said Police Chief Anthony Holloway.
We spoke to a friend of Davis' who called the news beyond belief, especially considering he's heard Davis was "wonderful" with her grandchildren.
"Great with them, got them anything they wanted," said Mequel Mobley. "Just picked them up on the weekend and keep them, she was wonderful with them."
Holloway said detectives are working hard to identify a motive, or some kind of clue as to why this happened.
"Detectives will look at everything they can look at," he said. "They'll go back in the house again and try to find out some evidence."
"Was it something online that he saw?" Holloway continued. "Was it something he saw on TV? They'll just try to talk to family and friends and put his life together to try to figure out how this happened."
