PALMETTO, Fla. — A child was hit and killed by a vehicle Friday morning in Manatee County.

The incident happened at about 11:12 a.m. in the 5500 block of 69th Street East in Palmetto.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the 23-month-old girl ran into the road and was hit by oncoming traffic.  They believe the child was staying at a grandparent's house in the area.

The girl was identified as Arayah Phillips.

FHP said the child was alone in the front before she darted out into the roadway. 

Officials said the driver of Chevy Equinox involved in the accident stayed on scene.

FHP said all parties involved are victims in this incident.
