LARGO, Fla. — Authorities are investigating a double homicide after two women were killed Wednesday evening.
According to Largo police, Wiley S. Mackenzie has been arrested and charged in the deaths of his mother and stepsister.
Police responded to the Casa Bello Condos on 3rd Avenue Southwest Wednesday just after 6 p.m.
Mackenzie, 49, is facing two counts of murder after Largo police said he stabbed his mom and stepsister.
Mackenzie's father called 911 to report that his son had a weapon.
When officers arrived, they found Mackenzie's father outside the condo frantically telling them his son was attacking his wife and stepdaughter with a knife.
Officers found the wife dead and her daughter near death. She was rushed to an area hospital where she died a short time later. Their names have not been released yet.
It remains unclear if Largo police had previously been to the home for any domestic violence incidents.
Mackenzie has no prior arrests in Pinellas County, Florida or Maryland, where it appears the family is from.
Daniel Kramer lives next door and said nothing he has seen or heard would have made him think it would end like this.
“They were just normal people,” Kramer said. “I’d always see them at least once a day walking the dog, just walking out to get the mail. I mean it’s a small community. Only 20 units. So you sort of knew everybody here that would step outside the building.”
