Wearing a freshly made shirt with her son's picture on it, Rogers described what she saw moments before she and Elijah were hit by the car.

“All I saw were headlights and a white car speeding right through the stop sign,” Rogers said.

Elijah was transported to Tampa General Hospital where he died from his injuries.

“I miss him. God do I miss him. I miss his blue eyes,” Rogers said.

At around 1:30 a.m. Monday Hillsborough deputies located a vehicle of interest in the case within a mile of the crime scene.

The driver of that vehicle maintained he was not involved in the crash. Sheriff's Office investigators processed the vehicle and ruled it out Monday evening.

No arrests have been made in the case. Detectives are continuing to collect evidence, according to the Sheriff's Office.

"Our investigation will continue until we can provide the family with answers and bring justice to the driver who carelessly fled the scene," Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement.

Family members said the crash occurred on a dirt portion of Rogers Road, which is named after the family and is where the victims lived.

The road is a dead end road, meaning the driver had to turn around and pass the crash scene again.

"I don't know how someone couldn't stop," cousin Elise Berk said, who saw the scene. "My heart is broken. But I know he's in a better place. I think that's going to get us all through it."

Rogers described Elijah as a good kid with a lot of energy. She also stated her determination to get justice for him.

"I will not stop until this person pays for what they did to my baby," she said.
