KISSIMMEE, Fla. — An increased need for supplies and services due to the coronavirus is putting stress on organizations helping homeless populations.

The Salvation Army’s Osceola Christian Ministry is still providing food, clothes, and showers to the homeless but now, the group taking extra precautions. For example hot meals are now packed to-go.

Director Alves Gonzalez said they’re in need of certain supplies.

“Hand sanitizer, shampoo because we provide showers every day, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesdays and Fridays,” Gonzalez said. “And we are out of shampoo right now. Also non-perishable food. We need a lot because we are still providing a food pantry in our facilities.”

Osceola County Commissioner Peggy Choudhry said she will be bringing up the topic of homelessness to her peers Monday at 9:30 a.m. in the Emergency Operations Center.
