BUTLER COUNTY, Ohio -- An Ohio mom and her group of volunteers are stepping up after the Coronavirus to help other families struggling to find food.

  • Instead of running her volunteer group, Tika Morrison is making grocery runs
  • She's combining what she gets at the stores with donations to make food boxes
  • In the last four days she's helped almost 50 families

The last time we talked to Tika Morrison, before Coronavirus, she was getting ready to donate to moms and kids in need through her volunteer group 'Moms on a Mission, but that’s all changed.

“I’m a little tired, but it’s ok, it’s worth it,” said Morrison.

After coronavirus, all the events she planned to help were cancelled, and she’s talking through skpye about a new mission.

“Any family that reaches out to us asking for help can get the help, as long as we have it here, and it means the world to me that somebody, at least for a couple days, won’t go without,” said Morrison.

She’s spends more than 12 hours a day doing grocery runs and filling up her van with what’s left at the stores along with donations, some from a food bank so she can make food boxes. The boxes go on her front porch for families to take, the rest she delivers to elderly or disabled families.

“Long before we had kids i was in a place where we had rice and potatoes, that was it and i swore my kids would never go through that, and so far they haven’t had to and i just wanna make sure that nobody else goes through that,” said Morrison.

In the past four days, she says she’s already helped closed to 50 families who couldn’t find food anywhere else. And this mom on a mission says she plans to continue helping even if that means coming out of her own pocket if she needs to, to help.

“People are worth it,” said Morrision.
