NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. -- A Pasco County woman is working to give seniors one less thing to worry about amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

- Bruckner: seniors don't want to go out because of coronavirus concerns
For more than a week, Rosemarie Bruckner has been grocery shopping for people who live in the Landings of Saint Andrew, a senior community.
"Just little things that they may need for the next couple of days. They're not looking to hoard toilet paper or anything like that," Bruckner said of the typical list.
Bruckner said she became familiar with the complex through her job at Pasco County Public Transportation, where she works as transportation program coordinator.
"I teach a lot of the seniors how to utilize our bus. So, I'll take them out on field trips, take them to their doctor's appointments -- just everyday life," Bruckner said. "They're limiting visitors who come there. So, family members who usually bring them food, they're limiting who can come in."
It works like this: residents leave lists with the leasing office, Bruckner does the shopping and drops orders off outside their doors, and residents leave checks at the leasing office for her to pick up.
She's at the store everyday Monday through Friday after working full days at PCPT.
"Now, Publix and all the name brands, like Winn Dixie, they're starting to do the seniors...in the morning. But before that, there was chaos, and I don't think a lot of people wanted to be out here," Bruckner said.
Her mother, Rosemary Perri, is one of the Landings' residents.
"They're so grateful because a lot of them don't drive anymore, and a lot are handicapped with their walkers, so they really can't get out unless somebody goes to the store for them," Perri said. "She's a very giving person. I know because she's checking on me every two days instead of me checking on her."
"Mostly, 'God bless you, God bless you,' 'thank you,'" Bruckner said of the thanks she's received. "It's just a great community. 'You're an angel,' I believe I heard, too. But I don't believe all that."
Bruckner said she plans to continue her shopping trips as long as stores are open and as long as the complex lets her.
