CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. — With schools closed due to the coronavirus outbreak, teachers are working in non-traditional ways to teach their students.

At West Coast Christian School in Citrus County, teacher Helen Smith is making sure her students and parents have everything they need, no matter the platform.

Smith, who teaches Kindergarten and 1st grade, has been busy creating individual packets for her students.

“It’s hard on everybody," Smith said. "Not just us, it’s hard on parents as well.”

That hardship has her working hard to be there for her students.

Smith created hand-made packets of every lesson, for each child, for 30 days - no virtual learning collection needed.

“You got to go each individual child," she said. "You can’t just sit and write down the page numbers for this child and everybody else is going to get the same. Uh-huh, it don’t work that way.”

It's that extra effort that makes her stand out to her parents.

Smith also tells her parents to keep her students busy, keep them reading and one other piece of advice.

"If you need me just holler. Ok?"
