Officers in the Oswego Police Department have a new duty. They have added story time to their daily assignments.
Last Monday, they started reading books to children on social media. It has since become a daily event. An officer reads a book in a different location to show off the Port city.
Police say they hope to spread cheer to families quarantined at home.
“This is one way we can serve our community and help those, maybe they’re home schooling their children. Maybe they’re home, working from home; maybe it gives them a 5 - 10 minute break to watch somebody else and kind of give back to the community,” said Oswego Police Lieutenant Charlie Searor.
Officers have read about 13 books so far and counting. Videos are posted everyday between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Facebook.
