ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — More than 2,000 members of the Florida National Guard have been activated across the state, operating testing sites, performing mobile testing at assisted living communities and helping screen passengers at a number of airports.
Fred Harmon, a 5th grade teacher at Blanton Elementary School in St. Petersburg, is one of them — in fact, he's been named one of the National Guard's "Faces of the Fight."

Harmon was activated at the end of March and deployed to West Palm Beach, where he is assisting the Florida Department of Health screen passengers at Palm Beach International Airport.
“We’re just tracking people coming in from hot spots,” Harmon said. “Finding out where they’re going, where they’re coming from.”
Harmon’s wife Courtney is also a teacher in Pinellas County. He said she is home taking care of their 2-year-old daughter while teaching students virtually.
“I think she’s a supermom right now,” Harmon said.
The National Guard named Harmon one of their “Faces of the Fight” on April 8 for his outstanding service both in the guard and in his community.
“It’s an honor,” Harmon said.
