SEMINOLE, Fla. — Inspired by neighborhood "take one, leave one" mini libraries, a Seminole man has opened up a tiny tackle shop in front of his home to encourage people to get outdoors and catch some fish while staying safe.

Nate Chason is an avid fisherman who says he was sitting at home out of work before the coronavirus when he came up with the idea for the tiny tackle shop.

“I got my inspiration just down the road with one of those tiny libraries that everyone does," Chason explained. "So I thought that was kind of a cool idea and I figured, 'well I’ll put this out there for the guys that can’t go in tackle shops right now and get lures.'”

Here’s how it works: people walk up to his Oakhurst Shores home in Seminole with the fish mailbox, take one of the lures and send a picture if you catch a fish with the lure.

The lures are free, but you can leave a donation or other fishing gear that he says he will fix up and put it out for people at the tiny tackle shop.

“People are taking them and that’s all I really wanted,” he said. “And even if they don’t go out and use them and they hang them up in a tackle box, it’s decluttering my house and also maybe giving them a little inspiration to get out there and actually try to do something while we’re all in lockdown.”

Chason says he’s been making fishing lures since high school and he’s had a lot of luck with his lures when out on the water. Now he wants to share that same luck with the community.

“I have been to different countries, different states, and I typically as I’ve gotten older I’ve taken my lures with me and caught most of the fish that I’ve caught all across the world with my own lures,” he said.
