No officers were injured in a Wednesday morning shootout, but a woman who police say opened fire on them was shot and killed.

Largo Police received a call of an armed person in the parking lot of the St. Pete Auto Auction," Maj. Randall Chaney told Spectrum Bay News 9.

"While our officers were in route, we received information that the person that was armed was a white female and she was now running west bound along 49th Street."

Police say, as officers followed her, she fired several rounds, striking a police cruiser.

Maj. Chaney said it wasn’t until she pulled the trigger again that officers returned fire.

The woman was taken to Northside Hospital in St. Petersburg, but she later died.

"We don't know what started it. The call we got was that she was in the parking lot of the auto auction. We don't know at this time why she was there," Maj. Chaney explained.
