After working in public health for more than 40 years, Senior Community Health Nursing Director Ginny Crandall said its time to hang up her stethoscope
What You Need To Know
- Ginny Crandall has been serving the people of Florida for 45 years.
- She spent the past 12 years at the health dept. in Hernando County.
- She's looking forward to traveling and spending time with family.
“I’ve been a registered nurse for 45 years. I’ve been a little nervous about it to be honest with you, but I’m also really excited.”
Crandall has been at the health department for a little more than three decades and has enjoyed every moment. She made a stop in Citrus County before closing out this chapter of her life in Hernando.
Florida Department of Health Hernando County Administrator Robin Napier added, “The director of nursing role in this health department is one of the most critical roles that we have.”
Napier has worked with Crandall for the past eight years, and while the Director of Nursing position can be filled again, she says no one will be able to replace her.
“Quite frankly she is one of the most respected leaders here in the health department for her knowledge and her skill, she’s become a friend of mine,” Napier said.
“This job in particular has been fun and challenging, and I feel like I work with my family,” Crandall shared.
She said working in the medical field for forty-plus years – with 12 of them being at the Hernando County Health Department – nothing quite compares to working in this field through a pandemic.
“I’ve dealt with outbreaks throughout my career and getting them under control,” Crandall added. “But this is bigger than all those put together. I think it’s going to be a long road. It’s going to be a marathon.”
Like many health issues, she said this is something to take seriously. And, as one chapter closes, she looks forward to opening another one – traveling when possible and enjoying time at home with her grandkids.
