HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. -- School was supposed to start this week for students in the Bay Area, but districts voted to postpone the first day because of the rise in coronavirus cases.

Many parents are opting for online learning for the upcoming school year. Here's how parents can get some help.

Child care and after school centers are offering programs to assist young online learners whose parents aren't able to stay home to help with the online school work.

“That’s where the assistant will come and make sure that they’re all on the computer correctly, if they have a problem, she can assist them in emailing the teacher,” Chris Hutchinson with Academy 2 Success said.

On hand educators will assist students throughout the day or a couple hours after school.

The increased guidance is a change from what these centers typically provide, but Sydney Turner with Ready 2 Transition, LLC, said this kind of help is needed, particularly in the low-income communities.

“In the needs of the community, one they don’t have a computer. They don’t have internet. As well as parents are not educated to teach their children,” Turner said.

This new option also gives day care providers a way to attract more families. Owners say business has been slow since the spread of the virus.
