HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. -- Millions of Cares Act dollars are being spent around the state to help people in their time of need.

Hillsborough County is spending some of those dollars to help seniors.

What You Need To Know

Hillsborough's new Silver Platter program is uplifting seniors and small businesses.

Dinners from small businesses are being distributed across parts of the county to seniors about twice a week.

The program currently serves 1000 customers a week. But they are hoping in the near future they will bump that up to 1500.

"It not only provides additional nutrition for seniors, but it helps restaurants get some very much needed business, and they are able to employ and re-employ some employees," Mary McKay, Nutrition & Wellness Manager, said.

The program is free for seniors and is funded by the Families First Act and the Cares Act.
