Agencies across the area are participating in the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign and say there will be zero tolerance for drunk driving.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 10,511 people were killed in drunk-driving crashes in 2018.

Tena McCallister lost her son Dustin Horne in a drunk-driving crash that year. She’s pleading for drivers to make a plan before they leave their house for a night of fun.

“I would just like for people to think before they get in a car and start the engine,” she said. “Just think what could happen? What life you could change? Not only your life but others lives. It’s not just one you change, it's a downfall effect.”

McCallister says her son was a kind and caring soul and a great dad to his young son.

“He had a great life and a beautiful son and a family that loved him that misses him everyday. I just want people to know that he’s really missed,” she said through tears.

In December 2019, there were 91 DUI arrests in Tampa and 22 of those resulted in crashes with injuries. Two of those crashes were fatal.

The Drive Sober of Get Pulled Over campaign continues until January 1.
