HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — Master Corporal Brian LaVigne, killed last week when a suspect crashed into his cruiser, was laid to rest Tuesday after services at Idlewild Baptist Church in Lutz.
LaVigne, 54, was a 30 year veteran of the the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, and was just one shift away from retirement.
Visitation for Master Corporal Lavigne took place between 10-11 a.m. at Idlewild Baptist Church in Lutz, with funeral services immediately following.
Services were open to the public. Everyone in attendance was asked to wear a face covering.

Master Corporal Brian LaVigne was responding to a domestic call last week when the suspect intentionally rammed his cruiser trying to get away from other deputies trying to arrest him.
LaVigne quickly climbed the ranks of the Sheriff's Office in the early 90's.
In 1991 he received the top state law enforcement award for DUI arrests from MADD.
In proceeding years he was awarded for his work with DUI and drug offenders.
The Sheriff's Office says Master Corporal Lavigne was a role model for young deputies, including his daughter who is a 9 year veteran of the Sheriff's Office.
"He was just so selfless. He was a role model,” said his daughter Deputy Caitlin Lavigne.
“He had a positive impact on a lot of lives and there was a lot of love for him. And it was well deserved. He was that good of a person.”
