BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo Teachers Federation has officially filed a lawsuit against Buffalo Public Schools to prevent what it calls the unsafe return of students and staff.

BTF President Phil Rumore says they have sent information to the district in an effort to work with them to resolve serious safety and health concerns.

In court documents which were filed Friday evening, the BTF claims they have not received proof that any building modifications or other precautionary health and safety measures have been made that would make a significant health and safety difference from December.

The lawsuit goes on to say that a safe and healthy workplace is a basic fundamental right and is guaranteed to BTF members by the collective bargaining agreement.

Buffalo Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Kriner Cash says the district will welcome more than 14,000 students and staff back into the classroom on Monday.

BPS did not immediately return a request for comment.
