Tampa International Airport is among North America’s most hygienic airports.

Airports Council International, a global trade organization that represents the world’s airport authorities, listed TPA among its Best Hygiene Measures by airports in its Airport Service Quality awards. This is the first year ACI has included the category.

The award is based on new hygiene-related questions added to ACI’s survey. It highlights airports that effectively added new health measures in 2020.

"This year more than any other, the awards recognize those airports that have listened to their customers and adapted the services and experiences they offer to meet changing needs and expectations under very trying circumstances," Luis Felipe de Oliveira, ACI world director general, said in a statement.

The airports were not ranked but they are grouped by region. Besides TPA, five other North American airports made the ranking. They include Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport and San Antonio International Airport.

A spot on this report could go a long way when travelers are choosing between airports. It could be especially helpful as Tampa Bay prepares for a busy spring break season following a year when tourism was down across the board.
