LAKELAND, Fla. — An educator of over 20 years was surprised with a message of gratitude from her husband. Victor Smith said that he wants to see more mothers like his wife celebrated.
“I mean honestly, she’s a great woman,” said Smith. “She raised my kids and the city of Lakeland’s kids.
Smith’s wife Barbara is a retired ESE Teacher of over 20 years. Her role helped disabled youth develop their skills.
“She has always had a love for kids and that showed in our kids and how they turned out,” he explained.
Mrs. Smith was surprised to see the Spectrum Bay News 9 car in her driveway Wednesday afternoon. She told me that her husband said they were meeting an insurance agent.
“I really appreciate this,” said Barbara. “He did great with the kids; he traveled with them to all their games, but I ran that house. My kids knew they had to get a job after [high] school or go to college.”
Each of the Smith kids went on to graduate from a four year university. Some went on to play pro sports.
“They’re all back home now. Each of them have good jobs but it’s my wife that’s always been the backbone,” said Victor.
The Smith’s now have several grandkids and say they enjoy watching their family tree grow.
