PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — Starting Monday, anyone age 60 or older will be eligible for a COVID vaccine and Gov. Ron Desantis said people as young as 55 will be eligible "relatively soon."

More vaccine doses are being produced and made available, creating more opportunities for people to receive them, including three new walk-up vaccination sites opening today in Pinellas County.

Community Health Centers of Pinellas is offering free COVID vaccines at locations in St. Pete, Clearwater, and Pinellas Park on Thursday and Friday from 1 p.m.- 4 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.  

In order to receive the vaccine, you must meet federal requirements, but no appointment is necessary. 

Qualified individuals include: Pre-K-12 teachers and childcare workers of any age (must bring school ID along with Florida driver's license/ID and insurance card), firefighters and law enforcement ages 50 and up (must bring badge along with Florida driver's license/ID), anyone age 65 or older (must bring Florida driver's license/ID or proof of Florida residency and insurance card), vulnerable populations 18 years or older (must bring Florida driver's license/ID or proof of Florida residency, insurance card, and a prescription form or doctors note completed by your provider), and frontline healthcare workers (must bring company badge/proof of employment along with Florida driver's license/ID). 

Officials say you do not have to have insurance, though, to receive a vaccine. The vaccines are provided at no cost to you.

Dr. Nichelle Threadgill, Chief Medical Officer at the Community Health Centers of Pinellas, said they received over 2000 doses this week alone, an ample supply, and they're fully staffed and prepared to handle the 3-day walk up event. 

She said she hopes to use every single dose.  

"Those who were kind of waiting to see how everyone does with vaccines have really had an opportunity to see what the experience is, and have really had some security the vaccine is safe, so we certainly encourage everyone to get vaccinated," said Dr. Threadgill.

The vaccines will be offered at the following locations:

    7550 43rd St. N., Pinellas Park

  • Clearwater Center
    707 Druid Rd. E., Clearwater

  • Johnnie Ruth Clarke Center
    1344 22nd Ave. S., St. Petersburg
