RALEIGH, N.C. — A wife gave the first vaccine of her life to her husband on Saturday at a COVID-19 Durham vaccination clinic.

Inside the dining hall of the Beacon Light Missionary Baptist Church, Dr. Theresa Williamson says she injected her husband, Sidney McLaurin, with the first of two doses of the Moderna vaccine.

Williamson told Spectrum News 1, "It was awesome. It was great giving him a vaccine.”

To make the day even more special, McLaurin brought their 3-month-old daughter, Skylar, with him to the clinic. The Duke Health neurosurgeon says this is the first shot of any kind she has ever given before and during her medical career.

The doctor says, “I think I was nervous because I wanted to make sure that I got it in the right spot so he gets the immunity. I don't want him complaining later about a sore arm.  I wanted to make sure I did a good job.”

She says for their baby to be by her father made this a moment to remember.

The doctor says she was so full of joy she couldn't hide it. Williamson says it's one of the happiest days in her life.

Various nursing staff and other doctors practicing family medicine were in the clinic to guide her through the process. She says having them beside her made her feel more comfortable.

Williamson says, “They walked me through it and watched me do it, so I feel pretty confident. It was just such a relief to be able to give him the vaccine and know that our family is vaccinated."
