Faculty, staff and students organized a COVID-safe commencement for the Steinbrenner High School Senior, Daniel Ramos.

An invite-only commencement ceremony with one graduating senior was a first for Steinbrenner High School.

"Daniel, really it's his dream to graduate from high school," said Ramos' former orchestra instructor Karen Bishop.

If you ask friends, family, students and teachers of the senior, all the pomp and circumstance was well worth it.

A 30-member Orchestra played as Ramos walked across the stage to accept his High School Diploma.

"You feel like you got that person who has got your back," Ramos said.

That support has been critical for the 18-year-old, who just two years ago underwent a liver transplant. Last November, he completed chemo for stage three lymphoma, and he will soon begin chemo for his liver cancer.

Ramos documented his journey and battle with cancer via social media.

"It's an inspiration for others, you know, to give somebody else hope that there is somebody out there that is being positive with things even though they are going through something really hard," Ramos explained.

It's that fighting spirit for which Karen Bishop says Ramos is known.

Ramos, a violinist, began playing in an orchestra in the sixth grade.  He says music and a positive mindset have helped him come this far.
