PASCO COUNTY, Fla. — Faster fire service is coming to Pasco County soon thanks to the Go For Pasco Bond voters approved two years ago.
Groundbreaking is scheduled today on Pasco's new Fire Station 9 located on Silver Palm Boulevard in Land O' Lakes, an area that has seen explosive growth in recent years.
Not only will the new fire station provide quicker emergency response times in the area, it will be a hub for specialty fire services.

Located next to the Veteran's Expressway, it will serve as a quick "in and out" for crews responding calls county-wide.
Station 9 will be a 16,000 square foot facility including full living quarters and four bays for emergency equipment.
It will also include what is known as a "hot, warm, cold zone,” a containment area where firefighters are able to rinse dangerous carcinogens off their bodies and equipment after calls, so those don't get inside the living quarters.
"When a firefighter comes back from a call, whether it's a fire call or a really bad medical call where they may have carcinogens or pathogens on them," said Pasco County Fire Public Information Officer Corey Dierdorff. "They will be able to go into [decontamination] showers right off the bay. Those have steam heads in them which have been proven to pull carcinogens out of the skin."
Firefighters have a 9% higher likelihood of cancer than the normal person thanks to the risk of exposures on the job.
In the coming years, Pasco Fire will construct four brand new fire stations with funds from Go For Pasco, and will also reconstruct five existing stations as well as its training facility.
