LARGO, Fla. — The Pinellas County School Board is finalizing plans for the Summer Bridge program.

They’ll hold a workshop on Tuesday.

What You Need To Know

  • Pinellas schools offering "Summer Bridge" program

  • A record number of students enrolling in the program, June 21-July 15

  • Summer Bridge registration

School officials said the program is on track for a record breaking number of students enrolled this year.

Summer break is still five weeks away, but right now 13,000 students are enrolled, 9,000 are elementary school kids.

“This program is not just for the students who have experienced some of that COVID slide, as you've heard, but also for the students who need to review what they've learned this school year so they can have a strong start to the new school year in August,” said Isabel Mascarenas with Pinellas County Schools. “It's also for the students who depended on my PCS online all school year.  It's a good opportunity for them to transition into that in person learning.”

This year, summer break is slightly shorter, so the Summer Bridge program will only be four weeks long. To make up the school days, it’ll be about an hour longer.

The District restructured the program this year, so not only will students learn the traditional, core academics, but there will also be a lot of fun, hands on activities.

There’s also a new program for students who will be entering kindergarten in the fall. It’s called “Rising Kindergarten” and prepares students for school.

The Summer Bridge program is free, and for the first time, the district will provide transportation.
