Spectrum Bay News 9 got a sneak peek before this Friday’s grand opening.
“It was really important we did this because these buildings are 30 years old and have had 3 thousand children ‘loving’ on them,” said Executive Director DeDe Grundel.
An activity center and all five homes have been completely remodeled from top to bottom.
They have new roofs, fresh paint, new windows, and kitchens but there is one update that Dede is extra proud of.
“We ripped out all of the floors so we could put one floor throughout with no transition. It’s going to help with keeping things clean, it’s going to help with children with disabilities, mobility issues, etc. We wanted to make sure we were prepared for everything,” she said.
Costs totaled more than half a million dollars for the project and pandemic setbacks with building materials made it tough at times to stay on track.
All the money came from community members.
The grand re-opening is scheduled for Friday, May 21.
