ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The pandemic put a halt on so many festivities last Independence Day, and this year, Pier Events is making up for it with a three-day festival at the St. Pete Pier simply called, “The Fourth.”
“We've been waiting for this for a long time, and there's a lot of talk about events coming up, and finally we get to have an event. It's a great culmination to the anniversary of the Pier, the Pier opened this same time last year, so it's a double celebration this year,” said Monica Varner with Pier Events.

With all the controversy surrounding the building of the St. Pete Pier, and then its grand opening last year amid a global pandemic, Varner said this event is really the first they’ve been able to have here and it’s been a long time coming.
“The Fourth” festivities start Friday evening at 5:00 with a food truck alley, beer garden, live music, and a showing of the movie “Independence Day” on the lawn.
It will run through Sunday, with the grand finale fireworks at 9:00 p.m.
“This is the first time anyone can watch fireworks from the new Pier. The fireworks are actually the main thing about this year, the fireworks are going off from Vinoy Park instead of a barge,” said Varner.
The celebration continues beyond the 4th, too.
On July 6th, which is the Pier’s actual anniversary, there will be a special drone show right above Spa Beach.
