After overcoming obstacles on the road and in life, local paralympian Monica Sereda has come home from competing on the world’s stage.

Sereda is a Para-Cyclist and placed 4th in her division in the Tokyo 2020 Summer Paralympic Games.

After serving in the U.S. Army for 24 years, she had PTSD and after retirement, she was injured in a car accident and suffered a traumatic brain injury.

Cycling was her therapy and she says competing in the Paralympics is proof that hard work pays off.

“I was just amazing to walk out and see Tokyo 2020 banners everywhere and you’re standing there at the base of Mt. Fuji on this beautiful speedway course. It was an amazing experience and one that I’ll never forget," she said.
